For this class, we were assigned a new task to further enhance our ideas for the presentation. This included introducing google sites, a chrome engine that allows anyone to create a visually good looking website with a few simple steps. I was wowed by the selection of templates that they offer. The last time I'd used google sites, it was the older version, so I was surprised to see the additional features that can be used to further customize a website. Throughout today's class, I was able to learn and understand, the importance of website design, since by creating a theme of aesthetic value, it can help the audience understand the concept easily.
I think that an aesthetic website should be color-coordinated so that it matches the theme, to further indorse the readers into connecting with the web concepts visually. For example, if you are creating a website about the environment, changing the theme to green can help people imagine trees that then can help express nature. In addition, there are many eco-friendly organizations that also include green as their color scheme. Using color can be useful for creating a website that stands out from the rest, but by understanding the visuals of other websites with similar concepts and incorporating those may actually help the audience relate your ideas even more. In addition, color can help define the website's mood, so that readers can connect with your ideas. Black and grey hues tend to feel dark and creepy, while yellows and oranges can be connected with warmth and happiness. If you are creating an online store to sell keychains to donate to children's charity, a black-themed website wouldn't match the idea of donating, since donating is a cause for helping. People may hesitate to donate when the website looks shady and dark looking. With that in mind, I thought that the color scheme for our team can be inspired by existing companies that have a similar purpose as our ideas so that we don't mistakenly address a different message based off of the color palette.
Secondly, I think that the layout of the website should be neat and effective since google sites offer numerous templates and additions that can be interactive and fun to view. Not only can images and links be added, but interactive elements such as buttons, carousels, and websites can also help readers visit the website and enjoy what the website offers, therefore grabbing their interests. Since the team website will include numerous pages with different topics, I think that by adjusting the consistency of the layout, it would help with the image of the website. A website that is too messy can be too bright for the reader, meaning that they might no be able to concentrate on your message. However, a website that has no description at all won't help since the reader won't understand the concept. By being able to balance both visuals and text, I think they can harmonize in order to persuade the audience.
There are a countless amount of websites that are beautifully designed. Unlike giving a presentation, websites are a source where people can read at their own pace, and revisit as many times as they like. Through presenting, like we did last semester, we are able to address the concept impactfully. However, since a presentation is time-limited, and it is only a one-time thing, we would need an ever-lasting domain, like the website to help audiences fully understand the team's aim. Today's class has helped me think of the effects that a website can have on people and the significant value that comes when designing a potent resource.
