While searching for photos that fit my presentation theme, I was met with a problem of how limited the supply is. This is where I appreciated the fact that I understood the copyright restrictions on each photo because it helped me reach closer to the desired effect quickly. Because of the types of copyright laws, we learned in class, as well as other English and non-English classes, I was able to identify and differentiate uses that I can edit the photo. For educational purposes, I wanted all my photos to be grainy, monotoned, and eerie, relating to the atmosphere of the book itself. I had been taught that some restrictions allow photos to be manipulated, so I made sure that the works I used were fair use before applying the filters. Because of that, I could create slides with more efficiency, unlike taking the long route of fishing through multiple media. It's strange how learning in the past can impact learning in surprising ways. Of course, I knew that understanding and distinguishing the different types of copyright regulations was important in future learning and presentations, but I had only taken the information as seriously as a footnote. It made me realize the effects of learning and understanding the importance of them because you never know when you'd need it. 


Another problem that I'm having is summarizing my book. Unlike the analysis and the biography, where the key points are obvious and clarified, the book itself has a lot of important details that I want to discuss. However, with the 6-minute mark, I have to rethink how I should show the plotline. It's more confusing because the book is shown through the perspectives of many characters, so I was vexed with trying to fit all the characters. The author is very passionate about adding monologues of thought that I really enjoyed, but for this instance, I am planning on cropping those philosophical dialogues. Instead, I would like to talk about them during the analysis. The task of summarizing the book but still keeping the book's ambiance is something I would like to improve. I wonder how book critiques are able to shorten their opinions. Whenever I try to analyze a book, I tend to overflow with the information, which ends up sounding pretentious. The presentation is also another opportunity for me to address my thoughts with coherence.


Overall, I had a great time today. I was able to discuss with my peers and maybe was focused on my presentation. For next class, I will continue working on my slides before the due date.

When I attended my first semester at an International school, we were all assigned with our own blog, so I learned to design my own website and to reflect my thoughts, instead of reciting facts. I used a different blog engine, in which we were freely able to change the background and add our favorite quotes in the given space, so we didn’t excatly learn the how of creating a blog. At first, I was unsure of using blogger, since I was already used to using the other website. However, it turned out to be quite easy to set up a blog account  and I espeically enjoyed revamping the web design. I also liked the explanation of why it’s important to note our feelings down, and I totally agree with that idea. Since feelings are something that changes in a short period of time, it would be hard to track every moment in your memory, so by recording it out digitally, I think it will become handy when reflecting back on my experiences. 3.3.2022 - Thank you for the 3 years!!!! (2019~2022)

 Today's topic was the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. When we were first asked to talk with our groups on this topic, I was excited because I had watched a video about this last week. From what I recall, this video on the crisis was more pro-Ukraine, so I was able to gain a neutral view by listening to Paterson's explanation on how this war is understandable. The video I watched discussed how the ways Russia is reasoning the war is unacceptable. A statement Russia has been saying is about how Ukraine belongs to Russia. This is true, saying that Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union, and how Crimea is culturally Russia's. However, it also coined how during Stalin's governing of the Soviet Union, millions of Ukrainians died in a deliberate famine caused by Stalin himself.  In this class, we continued to practice our presentations because we ended off in the middle of someone's book review presentation. From the last class, I practiced with a timer and was able to talk within 8 minutes. Moreover, it was the fact that I added my credibility and limitations that helped stretch out the time from last time. This ended up working out, as for the second time I presented today, I was able to talk in 7 and a half minutes. I also rethought the number of slides especially during the summary, because, at that time, I had an overwhelming amount of slides there, mainly from not using any of the animation features that were included in google slides. However, even if I had used animations, I still felt like I was diving into too much information. This is why I reduced unnecessary or overused information in order to make room for the biography.
