Today began one of many feedback sessions from Mr. Paterson, this time being our book review websites. Fortunately, we didn't come first, so we used the time effectively to improve our website. As mentioned in the beginning, Mr. Paterson showcased us a couple of mistakes that some groups had made in the previous class, and I had noticed a majority was present in our own websites, such as inconvenient spacing, and wordy pages, as well as weird unalignment in a couple of pictures. We did our best to fix everything, with underlined hyperlinks being the most common mistake that we had consistently. However, upon publishing, I had noticed that the published preview of my website looked different compared to my teammates, with the sidebar being translucent in my version but static in others. This is a major problem since depending on which style the website looks like, can change the width of the overall pages, causing unneeded spacing in between some of the paragraphs, so I would need to see about that during our feedback. 

Something else that is concerning is how to clarify visitors about which word is hyperlinked since the underlining was eradicated. We did change the color into a lighter blue to note disturb the overall visual aesthetic, but the end result isn't recognizable. I don't want to change the font since that would ruin the consistency, but having a whole different color would also mean to change some of the pages that are leaning towards one color, even to the point of altering the logo itself. Speaking of logo, one problem mentioned in the beginning was the importance of creating a bold logo that could be easily seen. Albeit I believe that the automatically minimized logos are caused by the Google Sites system, and can not be manipulated in any way, I did accept that our team logo wasn't looking clear nor impactful. This is why for the logo on the upper right, we deleted the team name and focused on magnifying the imagery, and fortunately worked very well as now, users from afar can instantly recognize its bold silhouette. However, we kept the original logo on the homepage as we had enlarged it in previous classes. I enjoy the old-fashioned font as it fits the setting of a majority of books involved in the website. 

Overall, my team and I were able to brush up on our website, and polish the nit-picky parts. However, I am still a little hesitant at some parts, and I would like to mention that during the next class hopefully, in subsequent weeks.

 Today's topic was the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. When we were first asked to talk with our groups on this topic, I was excited because I had watched a video about this last week. From what I recall, this video on the crisis was more pro-Ukraine, so I was able to gain a neutral view by listening to Paterson's explanation on how this war is understandable. The video I watched discussed how the ways Russia is reasoning the war is unacceptable. A statement Russia has been saying is about how Ukraine belongs to Russia. This is true, saying that Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union, and how Crimea is culturally Russia's. However, it also coined how during Stalin's governing of the Soviet Union, millions of Ukrainians died in a deliberate famine caused by Stalin himself. This was to replace the small farms with their state farms. So even if a big portion of the Ukrainian population has Russian roots and can speak Russian fluently, we have to consider that there...

While searching for photos that fit my presentation theme, I was met with a problem of how limited the supply is. This is where I appreciated the fact that I understood the copyright restrictions on each photo because it helped me reach closer to the desired effect quickly. Because of the types of copyright laws, we learned in class, as well as other English and non-English classes, I was able to identify and differentiate uses that I can edit the photo. For educational purposes, I wanted all my photos to be grainy, monotoned, and eerie, relating to the atmosphere of the book itself. I had been taught that some restrictions allow photos to be manipulated, so I made sure that the works I used were fair use before applying the filters. Because of that, I could create slides with more efficiency, unlike taking the long route of fishing through multiple media. Today we did a discussion about “War made Easy”, and learned about net neutrality. Through the discussion, we were surprised at how the president could spread such exaggeration through the media just to support the war. Personally, I think this related strongly to the “War is a Racket”. Here Butler presented the close bonds in which the government and companies have through the profit made during wars. War requires mass production of military resources such as artillery, uniforms, and jets. These are commissioned by the government towards private businesses which in turn creates abundant profit. As such, despite war incurring suffering from soldiers, it usually benefits corporations the most. Although the documentary didn’t talk war's ludicrously in its role in capitalism, it surely addressed how governments can deceive the people into validifying war.
